Interview Guidance

So, you have a job interview coming up. It’s for a position you really want and can’t risk mucking it up. To be in with the chance of bagging the job, check out our tips to ensure a seamless interview.

Do your homework

Before the interview, do some research into the company. Visit their website and check their social media pages for any insights into the business. Familiarise yourself with the job description and identify where your strengths and weaknesses lie.

Prepare answers

There’s always going to be questions that come up in every interview. The usual ‘why do you want to work here?’ or ‘what can you bring to the company’ are classic questions that are worth preparing an answer for. This way, you won’t be stuck for words in the interview.

Have questions ready

Most employers will ask if you have any questions at the end of the interview. To avoid an awkward silence or appearing uninterested, think of a few to ask beforehand. Ideal questions could be about the development opportunities in the company or asking what the interviewer enjoys about working there. Remember, you are also checking if the job is right for you, so ask away!

Be organised

Do a test run of the route you’ll take to the interview in advance. Set out what you’re going to wear the night before. Get to the interview 15 minutes early. Doing these things can reduce stress on the day of the interview. The last thing you need is to turn up late and make a bad first impression from the get-go.

Tangible evidence

If possible, take some examples of work to illustrate to the employer what you are capable of. They will showcase the quality of your work in the past and your ability for the future. Even if you haven’t been asked to bring samples of your work to the interview, do it anyway just in case. At least you’ll be prepared!

Be yourself

Don’t be someone you’re not. The interviewer wants to see your personality shine through. As much as it’s all about skills and experience, the employer is also assessing how well they think you will fit into the business. Try to relax and be yourself.
